Switzerland is the ultimate alpine destination — a country that combines spectacular nature, legendary efficiency, and one of the highest standards of living in the world. From the snow-capped peaks of the Matterhorn to the shores of Lake Geneva, from the medieval lanes of Bern to the ski resorts of Zermatt and Verbier, Switzerland is a country that never disappoints — but one that must be earned, as it is also one of the most expensive destinations in Europe (66% more expensive than France on average).

Switzerland is best explored across two main seasons. Summer (June–September) is ideal for hiking, mountain lakes, and panoramic views of the Alps. Winter (December–March) is ski season, with resorts such as Verbier, Zermatt, Davos and Crans-Montana welcoming skiers from around the world. Good news for French travellers: no visa is required (Switzerland is part of the Schengen Area) and the border is easily crossed. A national ID card is accepted. However, the local currency is the Swiss franc (CHF) — €1 ≈ 1 CHF — and prices are noticeably higher than in France across the board.
