Morocco is the top travel destination for French people outside Europe, and for good reason. Just a 3-hour flight from Paris, the kingdom offers a complete change of scenery: UNESCO-listed labyrinthine medinas, golden Saharan dunes, perched villages in the Atlas Mountains, Atlantic beaches and a cuisine ranked among the richest in the Arab world.

What makes Morocco particularly accessible for French travellers is the cultural and linguistic closeness: French is widely spoken in cities, flights are frequent and affordable from all major French cities, and no visa is required for stays of up to 90 days. A passport is all you need — bear in mind, however, that the national ID card has not been accepted at the Moroccan border for several years now.

Morocco can be visited at any time of year, but the most pleasant periods are spring (March–May) and autumn (September–November): mild temperatures, beautiful light and fewer tourists than in midsummer or over the holidays. Winter remains very pleasant in the southern cities, while summer can be gruelling in Marrakech and Fez with temperatures exceeding 40°C. Whether you dream of getting lost in the souks of Marrakech, sleeping under the stars in the dunes of Erg Chebbi, exploring the blue medina of Chefchaouen or surfing in Essaouira, find all our articles here to help you plan your trip to Morocco.
